Installing Cokers VPN is a two-step process.  The first step is to be done by a Coker IT team member. The second step can be completed by either an IT Team member or the User themself if they are using their personal device (Special Use Case - Needs IT Director permission).



First Step:  

  • The IT team member will need to obtain a support ticket from the user's supervisor that they will need a VPN to access Colleague or other Coker-provided Software that is behind Coker's Firewall & Network. 


  • The IT team member will need to log in to Active Directory and find the user who should receive the VPN. Then they will need to open the user's AD account and add under the Member Of tab the Remote VPN Access OU.  Click apply. Click ok.



Second Step: The user can now begin the process of installing the VPN. There are two different ways to install the VPN depending on the user's Operating system of their device. Either Windows or Mac


Windows:


Step 1.  Open Chrome and type https://vpn.coker.edu into the URL bar. Hit Enter


Step 2.  You will now be on a Sophos Login Page. Enter your Coker username (without the @coker.edu) and Password. Click Login.


Step 3.  Next, You will be on a new Sophos page, Click the Remote Access option on the top left.


Step 4.  Select the first Download option. This will take you to a new UTM Download Page.  Scroll down on that page to the bottom. Select the first Download option for Windows Devices


Step 5. After it is finished downloading, Open it up. Follow any prompts to complete the installation. 


Step 6. Return to the Sophos page, Under the Remote Access option, Select the second Download option. This will download your user configuration file for the VPN.


Step 7. Click the Windows icon on your laptop/desktop and search for the Sophos folder in your applications. Open it and Select Sophos Connect. 


Step 8.  The application should open. Click the 3 dots on the top right and click Import Connection. Find the second download with the User Configuration in the file explorer box under your downloads folder. 


Step 9.  You will need to type in your Coker username and password in the login box. Click Sign In.


Step 10 The application will then load your configuration profile and will show a green Check box when it is connected.  To Disconnect, you can reopen the Sophos Connect application and click Disconnect at the top.  Repeat steps 7-10 for normal use of the VPN daily.

Mac


To use the VPN on Macs you will need to install an application called tunnelblick. You can get to the download page for this at this address: https://tunnelblick.net/downloads.html

Please install the Stable Version Tunnelblick 3.8.8g

If you are using a coker issued device, this download will be located in the SelfService app on your device under the applications


Step 1. Install TunnelBlick


Step 2. Open Chrome/Safari and type https://vpn.coker.edu into the URL bar. Hit Enter


Step 3. You will now be on a Sophos Login Page. Enter your Coker username (without the @coker.edu) and Password. Click Login.


Step 4. Next, You will be on a new Sophos page, Click the Remote Access option on the top left.


Step 5. Select the first Download option. This will take you to a new UTM Download Page.  Scroll down on that page to the bottom. Select the second Download option for Mac Devices.


Step 6. After it is finished downloading, Open it up. Follow any prompts to complete the installation. 


Step 7.  Return to the Sophos page, Under the Remote Access option, Select the second Download option. This will download your user configuration file for the VPN.


Step 8.  Open the Tunnelblick application. You will be greeted by a Software Update page. Click Install Update on the bottom right. Once it installs select the option to relaunch the application. If it asks for admin rights sign in with your device username or account if you are using your personal device. Otherwise, inform a Coker IT team member and they will enter their credentials.


Step 9 Afterward, You should see the tunnelblick symbol in the top bar on the right of your Mac. It will be faded out. Click on it.


Step 10. Select the option to add a VPN


Step 11. Find the configuration file you downloaded. Click and drag it to the tunnelblick icon in the top bar on the right.


Step 12. Select Only Me under the Install configuration For All Users? dialog box. If it asks for admin rights sign in with your device username or account if you are using your personal device. Otherwise, inform a Coker IT team member and they will enter their credentials.



Step 13. Click the tunnel Blick icon again. You will now see an option to Connect to your username@vpn.coker.edu. Click on it. 


Step 14. A new login dialog box will show. You will need to type in your Coker username and password in the login box. Click ok.


Step 15. You will now see a tunnel blick dialog box in the right corner of your screen. It will show your vpn info in yellow. Once the VPN is connected it will show the information in Green.


Step 16. To disconnect the VPN, Click the tunnel blick icon in the top right of your Mac screen and select  the disconnect username@vpn.coker.edu  option.
